Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) are easily checked by measuring electrical
conductivity; this is the little red light on home water faucet filters.

You really need to define what you mean by "purity", as typical public
water supplies often contain chlorine, fluoride, sodium, iron,
manganese, nitrates, etc.
